The residents of Karimnagar district, who were unhappy over Vemulawada, Dharmapuri, Koti Lingala, Kondagattu and Kaleshwaram being part of other districts after the reorganisation of districts, there is something to cheer about with the State government planning to develop Karimnagar as a world class tourism hub with the development of Manair River Front (MRF) on the shores of Lower Manair Dam.
Minister for Finance Eatala Rajender along with Karimnagar MP B. Vinod Kumar and Karimnagar legislator Gangula Kamalakar, who visited the Sabharmathi river front in Gujarat, have decided to develop the Manair river front for about five km.
But Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who reviewed the project with the officials and elected representatives in Hyderabad on Wednesday, suggested increasing the length to nine km.
Earlier, the State government had allocated ₹506 crore in the State budget and released ₹193 crore for the project in the first phase.
The plan now is the develop the Manair river front on the lines of Hong Kong, Macau to make it a sought-after tourist destination in the State.
In the first phase, work would be taken up from LMD shores to Chegurthi in Karimnagar mandal and Manakondur mandal respectively. In the second phase, the project would be extended to Vegurupalli village in Manakondur mandal. As part of the project, a check-dam would be constructed to store water throughout the year.
With the construction of retaining walls, the authorities would acquire land abutting the river front which would be used for building gardens, theme parks and other recreational facilities.
The Telangana State’s first high-level cable-stayed bridge would be built across the MRF connecting Karimnagar with Sabhaspalli village in Manakondur mandal to ease traffic congestion on Rajiv Rahadari.
The detailed project report would be prepared by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and work would be taken up within two years.
