Man sets wife on fire

A man allegedly killed his wife by setting her afire at their house in Puddur mandal of adjoining Ranga Reddy district. The incident, which reportedly took place on May 16, came to light on Sunday.

According to police, U. Shekar, a labourer, lived with his Sunita at Somungurthi village of Puddur mandal. “The couple often quarrelled over some family disputes. During one such fight, Shekar doused her with kerosene and set her ablaze. He fled soon after,” Chengamul Sub-Inspector Mohd Khaleel said.

On Sunday, the victim’s brother and a villager approached the police complaining of foul smell emanating from the house. The police, who opened the door, found the charred body of the woman.

They registered a case of murder and have launched efforts to nab Shekar.

Over 100 youths held

The south zone police continued with “Operation Late Night Roam- Yo’s” on Saturday night.

About 100 youngsters who were reportedly moving around on motorcycles and those who had gathered at street corners late in the night were rounded up.

They were accommodated at a private function hall for a few hours.

On Sunday morning, DCP (South) V. Satyanarayana counselled the youth and advised them not to fall prey to bad habits.

He summoned their parents and asked them to keep proper surveillance on the activities of their children. All those detained were let off. Additional DCP (South) K. Babu Rao said that the operation will continue for the next few days.

Man held for ‘assaulting’ minor

A 20-year-old man was arrested for allegedly having unnatural sex with a six-year-old boy at Tirumulgherry on Sunday.

The accused person, Raja, who is a relative of the child, lured the boy by offering him chocolates three days ago. The boy told his parents about the incident who made a complaint with the police on Sunday.

The boy is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
