A pair of differently abled twins were smothered and strangled to death by their maternal uncle at his rented house in Chaitanyapuri here on Friday night.

Chaitanyapuri inspector S Saidaiaha said the assailant, Mallikarjun Reddy, killed his sister’s children between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Friday.

The victims were 12-year-old Vishnuvardhan Reddy and his sister Srujana Reddy, residents of Miryalaguda in Nalgonda district.

Mallikarjun Reddy was trying to shift the bodies in his friend’s car from his house when his landlord sensed that something was unusual and alerted the police. On receipt of information, the police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies.

“On the pretext of providing better school education to his sister’s children, the accused brought them with him on Friday afternoon in a state-run RTC bus and killed them,” the police said.

During interrogation, he told the police that his sister was facing difficulties and was also undergoing mental trauma in taking care of the twins.

“Unable to see her hardship, the accused decided to eliminate them,” Mr Saidaiaha said.

After killing the duo, Mallikarjun Reddy reportedly informed his sister of the incident over the phone and told her that he was bringing the bodies to Miryalaguda for last rites.

The police arrested Mallikarjun Reddy and his friend Vivek Reddy. The cops are suspecting the role of the victims’ parents in the murder.
