A 30-year-old woman, Maharani, was murdered allegedly by her husband Santosh at their house near railway quarters in Secunderabad even as their one-year-old son watched the incident in horror.

The couple hailing from Gulbarga came to the city a few years ago in search of livelihood. They were eking out their livelihood by selling waste plastic covers and other material. On Sunday morning, Santosh entered into an argument with his wife over a trivial issue. Though Maharani tried to convince him, he continued to rebuke her.

In a fit of anger, Santosh brought a knife from the kitchen and attacked Maharani, and fled. A grievously injured Maharani came out of her home and raised an alarm seeking the help of passers-by to rush her to a hospital.

Passers-by called the 108 ambulance service and rushed her to Gandhi Hospital, where she died later. Police registered a murder case against Santosh and preserved the body at the Gandhi Hospital mortuary to hand it over it to relatives in Gulbarga. A voluntary organisation has come forward to adopt the boy, the police said.
