A 35-year-old man sustained bleeding injuries when an abandoned flask he had hit with a rod blew up at Madhapur on Friday.

The victim, Swamy of Khannamet, used to work as watchman at a building but was sacked three days ago. He went to a site, where recently a hotel building was demolished, in the area and was collecting the scrap when he found a flask.

“He tried to open it and later hit with an iron rod,” Madhapur Sub-Inspector Ranjit Kumar said.

The flask blew up and the broken glass pieces hit his face and arms resulting in bleeding wounds. “Gases formed inside the abandoned flask resulted in a small explosion causing injuries to him,” the investigators said quoting the forensic experts.

Swamy was admitted to Gandhi hospital where he is recuperating.
