A man in his late 30s is battling for life after immolating himself near Charminar of Old City after Monday midnight.

The person identified as Mohd. Abdul Lateef was rushed to Osmania General Hospital with over 90 per cent burns. Doctors said his condition was critical. Exact reasons for his suicide attempt are not yet known. Speaking to some TV news channels at the hospital Mr. Lateef said he was depressed over being harassed for money by some persons.

Mr. Lateef said he used to work as computer operator with a share market consultant M.A. Hafeez who had disappeared a few weeks ago. Mr. Hafeez’s clients allegedly started harassing him demanding to return the money they had invested with Mr. Hafeez.

Mr. Lateef charged that some clients forcibly got his signature on blank documents and were pestering him to return them the money.

Mr. Lateef is a resident of Tadbun in Bahadurpura and has four children.
