The Chaderghat police on Saturday arrested a businessman Mohd. Hameed Ahmed, 45, on charge of duping several people by selling government land claiming that he owned it.

One of Ahmed’s victims was a retired SBH employee Ghulam Mohiuddin, who paid his entire retirement benefits amount of Rs. 15 lakh to him to purchase an acre of land in Kanakamamidi village of Moinabad on the city outskirts.

The accused actually purchased a private land in Moinabad in the name of M/s Chicago Farms and Resorts Builders and Developers. Adjacent to that private land, there was a huge tract of government land.

He used to tell prospective buyers that he also owned the government land and sold the same to them.
