Man held for cheating 13 job aspirants of Rs. 50 lakh

The Neredmet police on Sunday arrested a man who allegedly cheated people after collecting money to the tune of Rs. 50 lakh by promising them jobs in different government departments.

The arrested person N. Suresh (43), a resident of Chandragiri Colony in Neredmet along with of his two relatives cheated around 13 persons by collecting sums ranging between Rs. 1 and Rs. 7 lakh from them.

After collecting the money Suresh invested heavily in various businesses and led a luxurious life, Neredmet Inspector N. Chandra Babu said. A case was registered against him in July last year and since then he had been absconding. Efforts were on arrest his relatives.

Infant killed in wall collapse

A 22-day-old baby girl, Zakia Begum, died while another woman sustained injuries in a wall collapse at Bahadurpura on Saturday night, the police said.

The baby came under the rubble when the wall of an under construction building collapsed on an adjacent tin-roofed house.

Salma Begum (24), who was also present in the room, escaped with minor injuries.

The police said the building owner, Abdul Bari, constructed a new wall during the day and it collapsed due to the rain.

The police registered a case under Section 304 – A (causing death by rash and negligent act) and are investigating the incident.
