A resident of Hayathnagar is facing criminal case, after he allegedly beat to death a dog as it bit his wife on Monday.
The person named Venkatesh was seen carrying the body of a dog on his bicycle in the afternoon at Injapur of Hayathnagar. Priyanka, an animal activist living in the same locality, noticed this and stopped him.
She insisted on being told where he was taking body of the dog and entered into an argument with him on learning that he reportedly killed it.
“It seems Venkatesh told her the dog had bitten his wife and he had beaten it to death. Priyanka tried to bring him to the police station but the man left abandoning the body there,” Hayathnagar Inspector J. Narender Goud said.
The activist later lodged a complaint with the police who registered a criminal case under Section 428 (killing or maiming an animal) of Indian Penal Code and under section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act-1960.
The Animal Birth Control Rules-2001 were also invoked against Venkatesh in the case.
The body of the dog was taken to local Government Veterinary Centre for autopsy but the doctor deferred it to (Tuesday) stating it cannot be conducted after 5 p.m.
Police shifted the body of the dog to Hayathnagar police station and preserved it in a thermocol box filled with ice.
The police said Venkatesh would be detained and interrogated after completion of the autopsy.
