Make caste data public, VHR urges Centre

Former Rajya Sabha member V. Hanumantha Rao has requested the Central Government to publish the caste data 2011 so that data can be used for formulating policies by the Government for the targeted uplift of the backward castes.

In a letter to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Mr. Rao said that the UPA Government included caste details in Census 2011, for the first time since 1931. The data has been submitted to the Government but is yet to be made public. The delay is affecting the prospects of the BCs, and their share in development and welfare schemes.

He also wrote a similar letter to Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India Sailesh on the same subject.
