The party cadre has been asked to get ready and prepare in right earnest for the 2014 polls

The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) has sounded the election bugle. The party cadre has been asked to get ready and prepare in right earnest for the 2014 polls.

Majlis president Asaduddin Owaisi urged people to strengthen the party by ensuring cent per cent polling. “Each and every vote counts. Those who are praying for Akbaruddin Owaisi have to act on the day of polling,” Mr. Owaisi said.

He made the emotional appeal on the occasion of MIM’s 55th year of revival here on Saturday. Addressing party workers and the public at Darussalam, he said Majlis would not only retain its seven Assembly seats and the Hyderabad Parliament seat but also improve its tally. The way the Congress government was playing vendetta politics by jailing Akbaruddin Owaisi and slapping sedition charges against him would only boomerang on it, he added.

“You commit atrocities on us, and we will respond in a democratic way through votes,” Mr. Owaisi said.

As the crowd lustily cheered, Mr. Owaisi said that Majlis leaders would not be cowed down by arrests and jail. Party veterans like his father Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi and grandfather Abdul Wahid Owaisi had weathered many a storm in nurturing and shaping the party to this stature. They never compromised on principles. “We will also do the same. Going to jail is nothing new for us,” Mr. Owaisi remarked.

He recalled his late father’s statement that success was laced with struggle and perseverance. He also reiterated his desire to bring Dalits, BCs and minorities on a common platform. That will be the biggest political force to reckon with.
