A maid and her husband turned out to be the accused in the recent murder of retired Secretariat employee R. Satyanarayana at Chaitanyapuri.

Police arrested Venkatamma and her husband Venkataiah, who works as a watchman, on the charge of eliminating the senior citizen who was living alone at Hanumannagar in Chaitanyapuri.

“The watchman suspected that his wife had illegal relationship with the 64-year-old victim and warned her to snap her ties with him,” Vanasthalpuram Inspector T. Shivan Naidu said.

Venkatamma returned home after attending to work at the senior citizen’s house on the morning of May 25. A little later, she started for his house again telling her husband that Satyanarayana asked her to bring some tender coconuts.

The watchman followed her and attacked the senior citizen with a knife.

As the victim resisted the attack, Venkataiah asked his wife to hold the victim’s hands and stabbed him to death.
