The Andhra Pradesh Social Welfare Residential Education Institutions Society (APSWREI) has decided to designate 16 of its junior colleges as Residential Magnet Schools from the academic year 2013-14.
This is to prepare the economically deprived students for various entrance tests.
Fourteen of these schools at Srikrishnapuram in Visakhapatnam, Tamarapalli in Srikakulam, Kotturu in East Godavari, Kuntamukkala in Krishna district, Chillakur in Nellore, Cheemakurthi in Prakasam, Chinnatekur in Kurnool, Kurugunta in Anantapur, Madikonda and Jangaon in Warangal, Narsingi and Chilkur in Ranga Reddy, Mahendra Hills and Shaikpet in Hyderabad, will offer long-term coaching for Eamcet, Iseet and Neet, while two at Ibrahimpatnam and Gowlidoddi in Ranga Reddy district will provide the same for CA and CPT.
Admission into these schools will be through entrance test.
The schools will have better teacher-student ratio, hybrid model of teaching and coaching, extensive use of technology, micro schedules, and rigorous testing, apart from sports, games, and inspirational lectures, a press release from APSWREI said. Efforts are being made to improve facilities in these schools under the SC sub-plan, the note said.
