Madhusudhanachary set to become Speaker

Chary Saab, as he is widely known, represents the backward classes

June 10, 2014 01:00 am | Updated 01:00 am IST - HYDERABAD:

TRS MLA of Bhoopalpally in Warangal district S. Madhusudhanachary is set to become the Speaker of Telangana Assembly as his was the only nomination filed for the post after the notification was issued on Monday with a deadline till the evening.

The election was supposed to take place on Tuesday but it had become unanimous with all parties supporting his candidature. His name was proposed by TRS president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

Chary Saab, as he is widely known, represents the backward classes and had been with the TRS since inception. The TRS had given Deputy Chief Ministership to a Muslim and a Scheduled Caste leader, making Mr. Chary the third person among SCs, STs, BCs and minorities to get a top post. His appointment has virtually shut the doors on another MLA from Warangal either getting into the Cabinet or getting the post of Government Chief Whip in the Assembly because Deputy Chief Minister T. Rajaiah also hailed from the district.

Mr. Chary was TDP MLA from 1994 to ’99 but he remained with NTR-TDP led by Lakshmi Parvathi following the split in the party that dethroned N.T. Rama Rao in 1996. He was not given the TRS ticket in 2004 polls due to an alliance between TRS and Congress.
