Machines for sewer-cleaning launched

To stop manual cleaning of sewerage pipes, the water board on Tuesday launched a jetting and suction machine. It is second among technologically advanced equipments including mini-sewer cleaning machines which the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board introduced to make the city reduce manual waste cleaning and management.

The machines which water board’s Managing Director Dana Kishore tested on Tuesday is equipped to clean drainage pipes even in small lanes.

The machines using a jet of water cleans the pipes even if they are locked in clusters.

As the machine also has a suction pump attached to it, waste which blocks free flow of sewerage can be sucked in and removed without trace. Currently, this waste removal is done manual with the aid of contract workers.

The machine was launched on a pilot basis and will be put to use across the city, if it is found to be efficient on Hyderabad lanes during the trial. Mr. Kishore is expected to order for procurement of 70 such machines if the trial goes smoothly.
