Every filmmaker claims a USP – a unique selling proposition. Maaya’s USP, is not its emotional love story, but its ESP – extra-sensory perception.
Being polished for a June 3 release, this film is directed by National Award-winner Neelakanta, and produced by M.V.K. Reddy and Madhura Sreedhar alias Komalla Sreedhar Reddy.
“It’s a film on ‘clairvoyance’… the sixth sense – when people perceive an event even before it happens. It is structured as an emotional thriller, and is my dream project,” Neelakanta says.
The story revolves around hero Harshavardhan Rane and three heroines – Avantika, Sushma and Nandini Roi. Lilting music by Shekhar Chandra, of Nachaavule fame, is a standout.
Needless to say, the hopes of the cast and crew are riding on Maaya: it’s Neelakanta’s eighth film as director, and relative newcomers – the three heroines and the hero Harsha could do with a hit.
It is an out-and-out entertainer of the ‘very clean’ kind, sans double entendres, gory, blood-spilling fights or item numbers, Sreedhar Reddy says. He has himself directed three movies – Sneha Geetham (2010) and It’s My Love Story (2011) that did reasonably well, and more recently, Back Bench Student (2013), that unfortunately remained in the back benches.
