Shutterbugs aspiring to ride Metro Rail were a bewildered lot, as the L&T staff kept a constant watch against clicking pictures on platforms and on board the train.
The electronic media and photographers were restricted to the ticketing area on Wednesday. The staff went overboard with their vigil and tried to contain the enthusiastic passengers from clicking pictures even on their mobiles. “You don’t want to pay penalty, do you?” asked a platform assistant, directing her ire against a passenger clicking a selfie.
Unmindful of the warnings, the passengers nevertheless clicked away their first tryst with the city’s most awaited project. Later on, an L&T official confided that the embargo on photography was to avoid bad publicity.
“The station is not very good to look at and not complete in many respects. We had to launch the service under pressure from the government. Otherwise, it would have taken five more months for the launch. If people take pictures of the station now and post them on social media, we will get bad publicity,” the official said.
