The typographical structure ‘Love Hyd’ installation at Tank Bund which was erected about a year ago by Krishnakriti Foundation along with Streetart, GHMC and art@Telangana will have a new address in a couple of weeks.
Designed by Hitesh Malaviya in collaboration with Hanif Kureshi, the installation which will be shifted from its present address to Necklace Road incorporates the love symbol (a heart) into Devanagari script. The transliteration of love in Devanagari adds a multilingual, fun aspect which imbibes elements from our Hinglish speaking generation.
Over time
The installation in steel which was made at a cost of about ₹15 lakhs is the most vandalised installation in the city at the moment. “This cost is exclusive the cost of erecting and designing it,” says Prshant Lahoti, founder of Krishnakriti foundation.
At the moment the installation is crying for repair with the paint on some of the letters being ripped and peeled by Ganesh idol immersion revellers. Some wanted to make a permanent mark on love so the letter love which is in Hindi is etched with names with sharp objects.
Every letter of it bears random names of people scribbled in various sizes. Some didn’t even think twice before climbing on it to take their perfect photo. Prshant also says that the installation is coloured and repainted with durable outdoor paints every two months to keep it looking good. “Even then we are not able to stop it from getting destroyed. So, we have decided to shift it to a new location and install it in a way where damaging wont be so easy. The architecture for minimum damage yet being accessible for photo ops are still on.”
Check out the different stages of Love Hyd:
Love Hyd was initially in two colours. The love was in red and Hyd was in white. To mark the country’s 70th Independence Day, Love Hyd was coloured in tri-colour.
