A lavish life with his girlfriend, albeit the easy way. It was this desire that led 22-year-old Mohammed Farahan into the world of crime. The B.Com student was arrested by the city police on Monday for his alleged involvement in a series of chain-snatching incidents.

Marredpally Inspector K. Shashank said the accused, who hails from Mangalhat, would scout posh areas on his bike and target lonely women.

Earlier arrests

He had earlier been arrested by police at Begumpet in 2010 and Humayun Nagar earlier this year, for his alleged involvement in similar crimes.

In all, he was involved in 16 instances of chain-snatching that were reported in Marredpally, Kharkhana and Mahankali police station limits.

“We nabbed him while he was moving in suspicious circumstances at the Marredpally community hall,” he explained.

Gold chains weighing 26 tola and worth over Rs.7.5 lakh were recovered from him. A hunt is on to trace his accomplice Safan, who is at large.
