Lorry driver gets one month jail for drunk driving

The third and fourth metropolitan magistrate courts at Erramanzil here on Monday sentenced a lorry driver to a one-month jail after he was caught in an inebriated condition by the city traffic police.

Three persons got 20 days jail, seven got 10 days, seven others five days, one person got three days and two have been jailed for two days for the same offence.

A press release on Monday said that the drive against drunk driving was carried out on Friday and Saturday. A fine of Rs.2,000 each too was imposed on them.

Altogether, 322 cases were booked and these include 223 two-wheelers, 15 three-wheelers, 82 cars and two others. Thus far, 337 drunken drivers have been sent to jail and 3,044 cases have been registered, the release added.
