Minister for Finance Eatala Rajender has revealed the State government’s intentions to announce a loan waiver scheme targeting the weaver community in the State.
Orders for the same will be issued soon, he said, while addressing a meeting to mark the 102nd birth anniversary celebrations of departed Telangana leader Konda Laxman Bapuji here on Wednesday.
He also shared the government’s plan to devise tailor-made schemes for all the caste-based vocations which come under the definition of backward classes in the State. Opinions will be sought from the caste-based organisations about the components to be incorporated in such schemes to benefit the targeted communities.
No compromise
Paying rich tributes to Konda Laxman, Mr.Rajender called him a leader on a par with Gandhiji and Kaloji who did not compromise on anything, rather gave up plum posts for the sake of separate statehood.
BC Commission Chairperson B.S.Ramulu said a report will soon be submitted to the State government on categorisation of the Most Backward Classes, based on the commission’s study of the same in Karnataka.
Comparative data will be collected from all the departments over the status of government jobs for BC castes and sub-castes.
No clash
Meetings have been held with 92 department heads to understand the existing ratio of government jobs for each community. Details of 3.5 lakh government employees will be computerised, so as to find out which specific castes are lagging behind in government employment. To understand the status and living conditions of these communities, these details will be juxtaposed with the Census data from 2011.
Mr.B.S.Ramulu also said, the commission will also recommend ways to increase the percentage of overall reservations without coming into clash with judiciary or Parliament. Efforts should also be made to increase the budget allocation to match the population ratio, and to increase the income limit for defining creamy layer.
Postal stamp
Responding to demands for construction of ‘BC Bhavan’ in Konda Laxman Bapuji’s name, Minister Jogu Ramanna said he will represent the demand to the Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao.
MP Bandaru Dattatreya pointed out that about 100 BC castes have not been represented in the State Assembly at all since Independence. He assured that he would make efforts for release of a postal stamp in Konda Laxman Bapuji’s name, and for his statue on Tank Bund. Telangana Legislative Council chairperson K.Swamy Goud, Legislator K. Laxman, and others spoke.
