The police had inputs about certain Left Wing Extremist (LWE) groups being involved in the violence, said Commissioner of Police Anurag Sharma at a press conference here on Sunday night.
“We have inputs to this effect. We have yet to identify them,” a harried Mr. Sharma replied to persistent questions on the involvement of LWE groups in the violence that rocked the State capital.
He said 25 policemen were injured in stone throwing including an IPS officer Rajasekhar and an inspector, Gopal Rao.
Nearly 25 vehicles were damaged and this included four police vehicles that were burnt.
Some OB vans of television channels too were targeted.
“We believed and gave permission, but protestors violated the conditions. All relevant details on routes and parking of vehicles were provided to them but they did not adhere,” Mr. Sharma said.
Meanwhile, the Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee condemned the attack on Telangana activists and deplored that the State government did not keep its promise and gave a free hand to the police.
On one side it gave permission for the meet at Necklace Road instead of Hussainsagar and on the other, started arrests and put barricades at all the entry points into the city and cancelled trains and buses to city, the committee said in a press release issued here.
