After wielding the willow to create magic across cricket grounds the world over, V.V.S. Laxman is now likely to wield the microphone as a television commentator!

The elegant Hyderabadi batsman who bid good bye to international cricket recently, is likely to don a new role as a commentator in the upcoming Australian series to be played in India in December end, sources indicate.

Laxman who is playing for Hyderabad in Ranji Trophy for one last time this season, will be joining his illustrious teammates -- former captain Saurav Ganguly and his good friend Rahul Dravid -- in the TV commentators’ panel.

Ranji commitments

Laxman whose cricketing career is dotted with some of the extraordinary innings especially against the Australians, has already started writing a syndicated column. He was already approached to be a TV commentator for the recent ICC T-20 World Cup in Sri Lanka and also for the on-going India-England Test series. But, in view of his Ranji commitments, Laxman preferred to wait a little longer, it was stated.

But, as the Ranji season ends next month, cricket fans who enjoy the anecdotes narrated by Saurav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid, will also be able to listen to Laxman as well. The trio which ensured that the Indian team scaled the summit in Test cricket should know better than many as to what it means to be a quality player.

For someone who changed the contours of India’s fortunes in Test cricket with that epic 281 against Steve Waugh-led Australians in 2001, it is quite apparent that Laxman should be a big hit in the commentary box as well. Viewers will certainly look for rare insights from Laxman on what it takes to be a special cricketer when one is up against the Australians. It should be an exciting experience not just for the fans but also for Laxman as even legendary Aussie leg-spinner Shane Warne too will be in the commentary box besides other cricketing greats from India.
