The latest Greater Hyderabad guide maps prepared by Survey of India were released on Tuesday during the annual congress of Indian National Cartographic Association.
Survey of India (SOI) released the guide map in eight parts in both English and Telugu based on field exercises and satellite data. The last guide maps for the city were prepared in 2002. The maps were released by Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Y.S Chowdary and Surveyor General of SOI Dr. Swarna Subba Rao. Present guide maps are said to be accurate to five metres.
The 34 annual congress of Indian National Cartographic Association which began on Tuesday will conclude on December 18. Mr. Chowdary said that new age innovations like Google’s maps should not be seen as competition by SOI. . Vice-Admiral S.K. Jha, chief hydrographer to Indian government said that his organisation, National Atlas and Thematic Mapping Organisation, is working on maps for all districts and cities.
