The last rites of Janakiram, son of former MP and actor Nandamuri Harikrishna were conducted at the family farmhouse in Moinabad near here on Sunday afternoon.

From early in the morning, a host of prominent people from the Telugu film industry and political parties visited Mr. Harikrishna’s son in Masab Tank and paying their respects, conveyed their condolences to members of the bereaved family.

Janakiram was killed on Saturday evening in an accident near Akumpamula crossroads on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway, when the vehicle which he was driving, was hit by a tractor coming from the wrong direction.

Among those who were present were actors Chiranjeevi, Tarak alias N.T. Rama Rao (Junior NTR), Kalyanram, actor and MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna, YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy and Nara Lokesh, son of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

A host of mid-level and seniors from the Telugu film industry too paid their respects, considering the family’s connections with politics and the film industry. Janakiram was involved in at least three films as a producer, including ‘Athanokkade’, although his name did not feature in the credit lines of the movies.

Late on Saturday night, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu was among those who visited Mr. Harikrishna’s residence. From early on Sunday morning there was a steady stream of prominent people. Around 1.45 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, the body of Janakiram was taken in an ambulance to the family farmhouse in Moinabad.
