A 50-year-old real estate agent, who was released on bail after being arrested on charges of impersonation, committed suicide by consuming poison at his house at Indiranagar in Dundigal on Sunday night. S. Subbaraju was apparently unable to pay the Rs.25 lakh in dues pertaining to a land deal.
Police said Subbaraju had created forged documents and sold more than an acre of land at Bachupally, worth over Rs.3 crore. After they had paid a sum of Rs.80 lakh, the buyers realised that Subbaraju had cheated them and lodged a police complaint. After verifying facts, police nabbed Subbaraju and recovered Rs.55 lakh from him. He was remanded to judicial custody. After coming out on bail a few days ago, the buyers approached him, mounting pressure on him to pay the remainder. Unable to bear the increasing pressure, Subbaraju ended his life by consuming poison at his house last night, Dundigal Inspector V. Bhaskar said. Police booked a case and handed over the body to relatives after an autopsy.
