Land Acquisition Act notified

The Telangana government has issued gazette notification for Land Acquisition Act passed by both Houses of legislature last month and received the assent of President Pranab Mukherjee recently.

With Wednesday’s notification, the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition and Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Telangana Amendment) Bill 2016 has come into existence. It has become now Act 21 of 2017, a release of CMO said.

The Bill was initially passed by the legislature in December and referred to Centre for Presidential Assent but it was sent back to the State government for certain changes. The changes were carried out by Assembly and Legislative Council at brief sessions on April 30.

The release added that oustees whose lands were taken by government for projects will get proper compensation in time under the legislation. The Act assumed significance as many irrigation projects were taken up by the State government.
