South Central Railway’s Carriage Workshop, at Lallaguda, has achieved the distinction of being the first railway workshop on Indian Railways to receive the prestigious “GreenCo - Silver Rating” certification awarded by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
It is only the second unit on Indian Railways to receive the award, the first being the Perambur Carriage & Wagon Workshop which got a Bronze rating earlier. South Central Railway General Manager Vinod Kumar Yadav congratulated the workshop team for the feat.
The CII assessed the green initiatives taken by the workshop, which involves eight parameters like energy and water conservation, renewable energy, greenhouse gas emission, waste management, material conservation, green supply chain, recycling and flora-fauna and innovations.
Last year, ₹ 40 lakh was saved due to the green methods adopted at the workshop which was established in 1893, under the aegis of “The Nizam Guaranteed State Railways” and brought under South Central Railway in 1966.
