After springing back to life, the Lakkaram tank of Kakatiya period is all set to host Teppotsavam on the occasion of Sri Ramanavami festival on Wednesday.

A boat was hired for the festival. It is being made up into Hamsa Vahanam of Lord Rama for the float festival to be held as part of the Sri Ramanavami celebrations in the town on Wednesday evening. It is for the first time that a Teppotsavam is being organised in the historic tank, sources said.

Tank restoration

The Kakatiya period tank got a fresh lease of life with the removal of silt and repairs carried out on feeder channels under the government’s flagship project Mission Kakatiya.

Subsequently, the tank has been filled with Krishna water from the Nagarjuna Sagar Left Canal as part of the tank restoration project of the State government.

Tourist destination

The Government agencies have drawn up an ambitious plan to fully rejuvenate the tank and beautify it. There are plans to transform the water body into a tourist destination for visitors and residents of the town.

Meanwhile, Khammam MLA P. Ajay Kumar visited the tank on Tuesday and took stock of the arrangements for the Teppotsavam. A trial run of the boat was conducted in the tank late on Tuesday afternoon.
