‘Lack of skilled manpower a hindrance to CCTV project’

July 07, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The biggest hindrance in the implementation of the community CCTV project is the lack of skilled manpower, said Mahender Reddy, Hyderabad Police Commissioner. He said that though the government had brought in a law, which made it mandatory for commercial establishments to install CCTVs, the initiative was moving at snail’s pace as enough youngsters weren’t trained in the technology of CCTV operations.

“To make Hyderabad a global city with high standards of safety, we decided that CCTVs were important. We got good response from the community and about 10 vendors came forward to implement the project. But there is no proper execution and even deadlines are being missed due to shortage of trained people,” he said. Mr. Reddy was speaking at the first convocation of the Institute of Perfect Safety and Surveillance, on Monday.
