The IT and Municipal Administration Minister, K.T. Rama Rao has announced Rs. 25 lakh matching grant to the welfare fund created by the Press Club Hyderabad for the welfare of its members consisting of senior journalists.
Mr. Rao announced the grant after releasing the golden jubilee souvenir and the welfare fund cheque at a programme organised at the Press Club premises in Somajiguda. He said the Government was committed to the welfare of journalists and recalled the assurance of the Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao in creating a beautiful journalists’ colony in the city.
“The CM thinks big and when he promises, he would deliver at any cost,” he said.
Praising the souvenir, he said it captured the journey of journalists in the last 50 years in the State and would be a guide to young professionals. Hyderabad Mayor, Bonthu Rammohan recalled the role of journalists in Telangana agitation and the support given to the Chief Minister during the struggle.
Advisor to Telangana Government K.V. Ramana Chary appreciated the efforts of journalists in the State formation and also appreciated the documentation of journalism since the formation of the club. Mr. Navin Mittal I&PR Commissioner explained the various initiatives taken up by the Telangana Government for journalists’ welfare including the health cards, which were unique in the country. Press Academy Chairman Allam Narayana and IJU secretary general D. Amar also spoke.
Senior journalists who contributed articles to the souvenir were felicitated by the Minister. Club president, R. Ravikanth Reddy presided while; secretary, Rajamouli Chary; vice-president, Vanaja; treasurer, P.V. Srinivas and others participated.
