The three-member committee of the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) has allocated 17 tmc ft water to Telangana and 16 tmc ft to Andhra Pradesh from the common reservoirs of Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar to meet their drinking and irrigation needs till May-end.
At a lengthy meeting held here on Tuesday night, the committee headed by Member Secretary of KRMB A. Paramesham decided to allow drawal of one tmc ft water each by Telangana and AP from Srisailam for Kalwakurthy and Handri-Neeva/Muchumarri Lift systems, respectively.
The meeting attended by Engineer-in-Chiefs of Telangana and AP, C. Muralidhar and M. Venkateswara Rao, respectively, also agreed to draw water till 800 ft level in Srisailam through power generation to supplement the storage in Nagarjunasagar. The water level in Srisailam reservoir stood at 815.9 ft at 9 pm on Tuesday.
According to official sources, Telangana is allowed to draw 6 tmc ft water for drinking needs of Hyderabad city and Nalgonda district from Nagarjunasagar. Another 10 tmc ft utilisation is allowed through NSP Left Canal for drinking and irrigation needs.
Similarly, AP is allowed to draw 7 tmc ft water from NSP Right Canal at the rate of 7,000 cusecs from March 25, 4 tmc ft including losses from NSP Left Canal and another 4 tmc ft for Krishna Delta System including regeneration at Pulichintala at the rate of 4,000 cusecs from March 21.
The committee has made it clear that the water releases should include transmission losses from Srisailam to Nagarjunasagar and evaporation losses in the two reservoirs at the rate of 12% on pro-rata basis.
