Expressing concern over the abduction of Malkangiri District Collector Ravella Vineel Krishna by the Maoists, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy today sought for information regarding the IAS officer that would help in his safe return.
The 30-year-old district collector of Malkangiri was kidnapped last evening by a group of 50 Maoists when he was on a visit to the remote Chitrakonda area, a Maoist stronghold about 85 km from here, to attend a camp for local development, police said.
Following directions from the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary S V Prasad spoke to his counterpart in Orissa D K Patnaik over phone and requested to make all efforts to get exact information about Mr. Krishna’s whereabouts and help his safe return, a release from the CMO said.
Mr. Krishna, a native of Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh, who was an alumnus of IIT Madras (2002 batch, civil engineering) went on secure 28th rank in the Civil exam (UPSC exams) in the country and had topped the IAS ranking from the State, according to his relatives here.
He had been posted in Malkangiri district of Orissa for the past 15 months and had been working relentlessly for the welfare of the tribals in the Maoist-hit district, they said.
