Family members of the arrested Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative, Mohammad Zia Ul Haq, have demanded the government order a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into circumstances that led to the arrest.
Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, they claimed that Haq was ‘innocent' and alleged that the police had booked false cases against him.
‘Not involved'
“My husband is not involved in any case and he is not associated with any terrorist organisation. He works as a cab driver and regularly attends duty,” Ameena Fathima said.
Haq worked in a remote place in Saudi Arabia from 1997 to 2002. He returned in 2002 and since then had not visited any country, she maintained. “The charges levelled against my husband are wrong. We request the government to order a CBI inquiry to render justice to us,” she sobbed.
MBT corporator Amjedullah Khan found fault with officials of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for ‘deliberately' disclosing confessions made by Haq to the media.
“It should be probed thoroughly to initiate stern action against officers responsible for revealing information to the press,” he said.
