Killing of deer at UoH: five more booked

The Forest Department on Wednesday booked cases against five persons for purchasing and consuming the meat of a spotted deer that was killed on the University of Hyderabad campus last week.

According to the forest officials, these persons had bought the deer meat from the two youngsters Ashok (26) and K. Naresh (20), against whom cases were already booked.

Based on the information provided by the duo, the five buyers were picked up today morning and cases booked against them under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 on charges of purchase and consuming the meat.

“Since this happened to be their first offence which is compoundable one, a penalty was imposed on them,” said Forest Range Officer, Anti-Poaching Squad, V.Tirumala Rao.

A total penalty of Rs. 65,000 was collected from G. Devaram (28), Krishna Chaitanya (26), Mani Prasad (27), Ram Reddy (28) and Anand Reddy (28), he said.
