The Revenue officials busted a kidney selling racket when a donor made a vain bid to sell his kidney by forging their signatures. Based on a complaint, police began probe into the racket.

The racketeer, Miriyala Kranthi Durga Prasad, of Satyanarayanapuram area, submitted ‘Family Structure Certificate of the Donor’ issued by Vijayawada Urban Mandal Revenue Officer (Tahsildar) R. Siva Rao and Sub-Collector Dasari Hari Chandana, to a noted kidney centre located at Himayatnagar in Hyderabad.

The hospital authorities have sent the certificate to the tahsildar for verification. The kidney selling racket was unearthed when Mr. Siva Rao noticed that his signature was forged and lodged a complaint with the Satyanarayanapuram Police.

The Central Zone police, who began probe into the organ donation racket, sent a team to verify the documents with the hospital management. Durga Prasad is working as AC mechanic in the city.

He produced the donor’s family structure certificate, issued in April this year, said the police.

Complaint lodged

Speaking to The Hindu City Police Commissioner B. Srinivasulu said that following the complaint lodged by Mr. Siva Rao, investigation has been launched into the case.

A team has been sent to Hyderabad to probe how donor Durga Prasad submitted requisition to the hospital and to ascertain whether there were any brokers or gang involved in the racket.

Central Zone Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) K. Lavanya Lakshmi said the police identified Durga Prasad and are trying to take him into custody for questioning.

“We are making efforts to find out whether any gang is operating from Hyderabad or other district,” said the ACP.
