Market police on Wednesday rescued a six-month-old baby boy within a few hours of his abduction, arresting two persons in the process.
Along with P. Parameshwari (45) of Serilingampally, a butcher, J. Naga Raju (29) was also arrested, North Zone DCP R. Jaya Lakshmi told reporters. Parameshwari admitted to kidnapping the boy, whom she wanted to sell for Rs. 50,000 to Naga Raju, who reportedly had no children.
The kidnapper had gone to the hut of P. Kurumaiah and his wife Devamma in Meerpet on Monday night, claiming to be a distant relative. She convinced the couple that she wanted to gift the children some clothes, and stayed back for the night.
On Tuesday afternoon, she requested Devamma to come along with her to the Market area in Secunderabad since she wanted to buy clothes for her children. Devamma set out along with her three children, including the six-month-old, and Parameshwari.
The kidnapper purchased a sari for Rs. 500 at a shop and asked Devamma to wait outside, saying she wanted to buy a recharge coupon for her mobile phone.
“She carried the boy with her but didn’t return,” the DCP said.
Based on a complaint lodged by the boy’s mother, Market police traced Parameswari’s mobile phone to Serilingampally, from where the boy was rescued. Along with the woman, Naga Raju, who allegedly agreed to purchase the boy, was also arrested.
