Keep regular tabs on Kaleshwaram work: Harish to BHEL engineers

Minister holds high-level review meeting at Jala Soudha

Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao has asked the BHEL officials to visit the Kaleshwaram project site once in 15 days and review the work on pumps.

Kaleshwaram will become a mega project in the world and every thing should be ready to pump water from Yellampally to Mid Manair by December-end. The officials should review periodically erection of pumps, testing and commissioning works.

The Irrigation Minister held a high-level review meeting at Jala Soudha with BHEL and Irrigation department officials here on Saturday and said the coming three months are crucial for the project. In every pumping station, at least two experienced supervisory officers should be appointed and the pumping stations of sixth and eighth packages should be completed as per the schedule, he said.

The meeting was also attended by Megha and Navayuga agencies’ representatives.

Mr. Harish Rao said that every one should coordinate with Transco officials and complete the construction of sub-stations.

Kaleswaram project is not for irrigation purpose alone but also for meeting drinking water requirements of Hyderabad city by December, as Mission Bhagiratha for household drinking water supply would be linked with the Kaleswaram project. He also directed the agencies to give letter of credit to BHEL by September 10 and soon after BHEL should transport machinery.

The Minister also reviewed the work on Kalwakurthy third phase. Mahbubnagar Projects Chief Engineer Khagender said fourth pump would be commissioned in two to three days and they expect some more machinery from the BHEL.

The BHEL officers were asked to complete fixing of fifth pump by October-end and address the issues in Nettempadu and Koyalsagar pump houses at the earliest.
