Re-election of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao as the president of Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) for another term was reduced to a mere formality one more time on Monday when six sets of nomination papers were filed only on his behalf. There were no other contenders for the post being held by Mr. Rao since the inception of the party on April 27, 2001.

“All the 50 lakh members of the party including Ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs and others have made the choice unanimously. We all believe that KCR alone can lead the party successfully as he did with Telangana movement. Holding twin posts is not an issue at all,” said party MLC Karne Prabhakar after the nomination papers were filed.

The six sets of nomination papers were submitted to returning officer N. Narsimha Reddy, the Home Minister, by a host of party leaders led by two Deputy Chief Ministers – Md. Mahamood Ali and K. Srihari.

The process of organisational elections in TRS, except that of the party president and the State executive including the politburo, was completed on Monday with the election of Mynampally Hanumantha Rao as the president of Greater Hyderabad unit of the party. Election of all the district presidents including that of Mr. Hanumantha Rao was unanimous with some trouble witnessed only in Khammam district.

The party plenary is likely to adopt 11 resolutions on the party’s role in the implementation in Water Grid, Mission Kakatiya, Haritha Haaram, development of Hyderabad and the welfare programmes initiated by the government as its flagship schemes.
