KCR will pay a heavy price: Congress

January 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated November 16, 2021 08:45 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Political parties reacted sharply to the dismissal of Deputy Chief Minister T.Rajaiah from the Cabinet on Sunday.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Mallu Ravi termed the dismissal of Dr. Rajaiah an attack on the self-respect of Dalits and said it was the second such attack, the first being the way how Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had taken the throne himself after promising to make a Dalit the CM of the new State.

The removal of a Dalit Deputy CM within seven months of the TRS rule in the State solely on the basis of allegations sans confirmation had happened only because Mr. Rao thought that the Dalits would not react. “But Mr. Rao is forgetting that the fight of Dalits is for self-respect alone. He will pay a price for it,” Mr. Ravi said.

Telangana Telugu Desam MLA A. Revanth Reddy alleged that Mr. Rao had ‘sacrificed’ a Dalit Deputy CM only to cover up his ‘inefficiency’. “This should be viewed seriously because it happened in just seven months of the government being formed in the new State. The Chief Minister must explain what happened exactly. Did Mr Rajaiah not oblige Mr. Rao by resigning,” asked Bharatiya Janata Party Floor Leader in the Telangana Assembly K. Laxman.

Combination of factors

CPI national executive member K. Narayana said the sacking of Mr. Rajaiah was a combination of several factors. “Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao was cut up with Mr. Rajaiah for a while now, including the Deputy CM announcing a few days ago that a medical university would be established in Warangal. By removing Mr. Rajaiah, the Chief Minister has also burdened the exchequer with a bypoll,” he said.
