Telangana Rashtra Samiti president K. Chandrasekhar Rao has asked the supporters of separate Telangana to be ready to plunge into another agitation if any hiccups over the status of Hyderabad in bifurcation of the State arise.
“Let us not be complacent that an announcement on statehood for Telangana has come but be vigilant till the State is formed with Hyderabad as its capital,” Mr. Rao told a meeting organised by the Telangana Joint Action Committee at the overcrowded Nizam College grounds on Sunday.
He, at the same time, asked the people of Telangana not to have any apprehensions on the statehood issue as the movement had ripened for conceding of the demand. There was no need to press the panic button at this stage as it would harm future generations. The Centre should not yield to the “artificial” agitation in the Seemandhra region which was entirely sponsored by Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, he said. The TRS president expected the Congress high command to unseat Mr. Reddy by October 6 as he took a partisan stand favouring one region. Asserting that the attitude of Mr. Reddy did not fit into his status as the head of the government, Mr. Rao took exception to the former, saying Telangana drew 335 tmcft water against an allocation of 90 tmcft. Did Somasila, Kandaleru, Valigonda and some other projects in coastal and Rayalaseema districts have even a single tmcft water allocation, he asked. Exploitation of water resources is the objective of leaders wanting integrated State.
Slams Naidu
He also criticised Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu’s remark that he took a turn in the interest of people on the statehood issue and asked why the latter did not do the same when the agitation over separate Telangana was at its peak.
JAC chairman M. Kodandaram warned coastal leaders and the media which is playing up the agitation in that region against testing the patience of people of Telangana.
