Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the latter’s 7 Race Course Road residence in New Delhi on Monday to take up several pending issues of Telangana.

Topping the agenda in Mr. Rao’s one-on-one meeting with Mr. Modi will be the recent legislation of Telangana Assembly hiking reservations for Muslims up to 12% and Schedule Tribes 10%. He will try to impress upon Mr. Modi that the reservations to Muslims were not extended on religious basis, but on socio-economic backwardness. Since the hike will take the overall reservations in the State beyond the 50 per cent limit set by Constitution, Mr. Rao will request Mr. Modi to extend the Tamil Nadu model of reservations up to 69 per cent to Telangana, sources said.

They added that Mr. Rao will also urge Mr. Modi to clear the State legislation on land acquisition, bifurcation of High Court and delimitation of Assembly constituencies to take their strength to 153.

Mr. Rao was also expected to follow-up the issues that he raised at the Chief Ministers’ conference during the governing council meeting of NITI Ayog on Sunday. He will seek dovetailing MGNREGS funds to agriculture and release of Compensatory Afforestation Fund due to the State.
