Water from Kaleshwaram-SRSP flood flow canal to be pumped into SRSP

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao will lay foundation stone for works pertaining to rejuvenation of Sriramsagar Project, being taken up as part of modernisation of the largest irrigation sources to Telangana till date, at Pochampad in Nizamabad district on August 10.

After the ground-breaking ceremony, the Chief Minister will also address a public meeting comprising farmers from the SRSP ayacut, Minister for Irrigation T. Harish Rao stated here on Tuesday. The modernisation of SRSP system includes construction of a three-stage lift, 15 meters in each stage, to pump one TMC ft water from SRSP flood flow canal to SRSP reservoir, and modernisation of main canals to restore their carrying capacity of 8,000 cusecs. Water from SRSP flood flow canal, which is expected to be provided given water from Kaleshwaram next year, would be lifted to SRSP for 60 days, and the project costs ₹1,067 crore since SRSP has not been receiving water regularly.
