Although a formality, K. Chandrasekhar Rao was re-elected president of TRS for the eighth time in a row at the 16th plenary of the party held here on Friday.
Earlier, his election as party chief was announced by party organisational elections returning officer and Home Minister Nayini Narsimha Reddy at Telangana Bhavan. Mr. Rao was greeted by a large number of party leaders at the plenary venue.
On his arrival at the venue, Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao first hoisted the party flag at the flag post arranged on the dais and paid tributes to Telangana martyrs at the replica of the martyrs memorial also arranged there. During his speech, he stated that the TRS had grown into a major political force in the country with 75-lakh membership.
Mr. Rao was particular in mentioning that party representatives from overseas also attended the plenary.
During the discussion on resolution on welfare schemes, Payam Venkateswarlu, legislator from Pinapaka, stated that KCR kits to be distributed for the benefit of newborns would be procured from Johnson & Johnson.
