September 22, 2014 03:46 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 08:06 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao was on Monday closeted with members of the Cabinet Sub-Committee that was constituted to frame guidelines for implementation of the Rs. 19,000 crore debt waiver for farmers, an election promise of the TRS Government.

Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao and Principal Secretary of Agriculture Poonam Malakondaiah met the Chief Minister to explain to him the views that emerged at the series of meetings of the group of Ministers last week.

Mr. Rao is expected to make a policy statement on the issue in a day or two but a strong indication was that the Government was likely to announce a combination of cash payment of Rs. 5,000 crore and issue of promissory notes to banks for the remaining amount.
