With a view to ensure safety of visitors and promote tourism at the picturesque Lower Manair Dam and adjoining Ujwala Park and Deer Park on the outskirts of Karimnagar town, the Lake Police unit was formally launched on the shores of the reservoir on the outskirts of Karimnagar town on Tuesday.

Karimnagar MP B. Vinod Kumar, legislators G. Kamalakar and V. Satish Babu, MLC Narasdasu Laxman Rao, Mayor S. Ravinder Singh, Collector Sarfaraz Ahmad, Commissioner of Police V. B. Kamalasan Reddy, Municipal Commissioner K. Shashanka and others were present at the flagging off the interceptor vehicle and motorcycle patrolling vehicles on the LMD dam.

Big team

The Lake Police is a full-fledged police team headed by a sub-inspector of police, two ASIs, four HCs, 21 PCs, four women PCs and 10 homeguards. There would be round-the-clock surveillance on the reservoir and the adjoining the recreational parks.

Speaking on the occasion, the MP urged the police to be cordial with the visitors and be firm against the anti-social elements and criminals causing nuisance. The police presence should not create a curfew-like atmosphere, but ensure that the visitors especially womenfolk visit the dam and park along with their family members with confidence.

He said he would take it up with the DGP to sanction a separate Lake Police station very soon for effective functioning.

Speed boats

Local legislator G. Kamalakar said that they had sanctioned ₹ 1 crore for the installation of CCTV cameras on the LMD reservoir and parks for the safety of the visitors.

The government was procuring boats and speed boats at a cost of ₹1.5 crore to be introduced in the LMD waters for visitors.

The Commissioner of Police said that they were taking all measures for providing safety and security of the people with the available 1300 police force, including home guards, in the district. The district police were deploying electronic gadgets like CCTVs and drones to help improve the effectiveness of policing, he added.
