Dalit thinker and writer Kancha Ilaiah who raked up a controversy with his remarks against the Arya Vysya community said he was prepared to withdraw his book if the community representatives were prepared to earmark 5 % jobs in their establishments to Dalits, Adivasis and members from washerman and barber communities.

“I am ready to withdraw my book. I am even prepared to change its name as ‘Arya Vysyas Social Servants’ if the community is prepared to implement 5 % quota for the marginalised sections in their establishments,” he told reporters here on Friday. Clarifying that his comments were against Arya Vysyas who claim descent from the Aryan race, he said the members of Arya Vysya community should be held responsible in the event of his untimely death.

Retired civil servant Kaki Madhava Rao who was also present said efforts were on to resolve the impasse over the book, published in 2009 and translated in 2011. The Left parties were talking to the Vysya community, he said.
