In what was described as the first such gathering in Hyderabad, the Jana Sena Party (JSP), founded by actor Pawan Kalyan, kicked off a three-day selection camp to enlist active party workers, on Tuesday.

The camp being held on the city outskirts, is the fifth in the series, after Anantapur, Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram, said the party’s media head, Hariprasad.

It is understood that Mr. Pawan Kalyan would interact with them briefly but it is not known if he would do so on Wednesday or Thursday.

Camp’s objective

Together with party Vice-President Mahender Reddy and Telangana unit in-charge N. Shankar Goud, Mr. Hariprasad outlined the camp’s objective.

He said the JSP and Mr. Pawan Kalyan were very specific about who would be taken in as active members. They said those selected would work for the party as speakers, content writers and analysts.

Among others, a young woman from Khairatabad here addressed the gathering saying she was impressed with the party founder’s feelings about discrimination of women.

Another young polytechnic lecturer hailing from Nizamabad said he was attracted by the party’s ideology and the systematic manner in which it was going about as a political organisation.

Mr. Hariprasad said the number of people coming for selection was steadily on the rise. In Anantapur, he said it was about 3,000. For the Greater Hyderabad meeting, over 4,500 applications were received and they would be tested and selected in batches, he said.
