Jimmy (41), the chimpanzee at Nehru Zoological Park, died of old age on Tuesday. According to the zoo authorities, the animal keeper on Tuesday morning found Jimmy lying dead when he went to the enclosure for cleaning and feeding.

After examination by the veterinary staff, Jimmy was shifted to the Veterinary Biological Research Institute (VBRI) at Shantinagar for postmortem. The zoo said the postmortem had concluded that the death was due to multiple organ failure due to old age.

Jimmy had completed his normal lifespan of 40 years. He had been at the zoo for the last 22 years, and the staff paid their last respects before he was sent for autopsy.
