Officials of Japan International Cooperation Agency, which extended funding for several ongoing projects in the State including the Outer Ring Road and the Hussainsagar Clean Up projects, held a meeting with Finance Department officials here on Monday in the context of the State’s bifurcation.
The State has borrowed close to Rs.8,000 crore from external funding agencies including JICA, and the loans would also be apportioned between the two successor States depending on the location of the projects.
The JICA funding was extended to ORR, Hussainsagar Clean up project, Electricity works for strengthening transmission in twin cities, minor irrigation tanks improvement, high voltage distribution system (HVDS) works to check power theft, etc. The HVDS and minor irrigation works were being executed in the two regions while KC canal modernisation work is in Andhra region.
JICA funding would be apportioned between the two successor States based on the projects in their region and there was no confusion, Finance Department officials said. Where projects were common and in the absence of identifiable expenditure, the loans would be apportioned based on population ratio of 58:42 between Seemandhra and Telangana regions. However in JICA-aided projects, there was no such confusion, they added.
